1. Farlands 1.1 Is Here, With More Still to Come!
  2.
  3. What? How? More content? What is this madness?
  4. Well, this is what happens when you have a team that wants to give players what they expect, and then a little more on top of that.
  5. After finishing 1.0 and spending a good couple of months fixing bugs and smoothing out some rough edges, the team still felt like adding more content to the game. So that is exactly what we are doing, and what we will keep doing for a while.
  6. Get ready, because there are some pretty exciting things on the way.
  7. First things first, version 1.1
  8. This update is not as big as the numbered Early Access updates, which were always packed with new content, but it does include a system that we had left unfinished and really wanted to complete first because it can be especially useful for new players: the side quest system.
  9. Anyone starting a new game will now see a tab in the corner of the screen showing the first objectives in the game. It starts with the basics, such as going into your house and picking up your tools, and continues all the way to the beginning of the main story after your conversation with the Empyreans.
  10. For experienced players, this probably will not be particularly exciting. But Farlands is meant to be enjoyed by all kinds of players, so giving a little more direction during those first steps before setting everyone loose should help quite a few people get off to a better start.
  11. Farlands also introduces quite a few ideas that work differently from other resource management games, so any extra help at the beginning is always welcome.
  12.
  13. Once you are past this introduction, you will be able to find the request board in Terbin. New requests from the locals will appear there every day, and you can accept whichever ones you feel like doing.
  14.
  15. These quests are recurring, so they will keep refreshing over time. There are 60 side quests available right now, and we will be adding more in the future!
  16.
  17. So, what is going on with Farlands?
  18. After talking things through internally, we came to a decision. Version 1.0 already included all the content we had originally planned for the game, and normally this would be the point where we start moving on to our next projects.
  19. But the truth is that all of us felt there was still more we could add to Farlands. We wanted to improve the overall experience, address more of your feedback, and keep working towards making the game even better.
  20. So we sat down, looked at what we could realistically add and improve, and figured out how we could organise the next few months. For now, these are the things we are planning to add:
  21. The quest system: The one that is already available now.
  22. Farm machines and processing: Furnaces for making ingots, refiners for producing plastic, more interesting ways of obtaining fuel cells and chips, and other things along those lines.
  23. Animal automation: Auto feeders, auto cleaners, collectors and auto petters, so you can leave your animals running smoothly while you explore the system without having to rush back because you are worried Bonnie might take them away.
  24. Two new romanceable characters: Who would you like to see? We are keeping this one a secret for now.
  25. Character customisation: A much deeper customisation system with different species, facial features and hairstyles. This is a pretty big update and will take some time, although we have already started planning it.
  26. We will release these additions as they are ready. We are not going to promise specific dates, because all of this is already extra content beyond what we originally planned. It will simply arrive when it is ready, in the same way we handled things during Early Access, while giving ourselves the time needed to properly polish everything.
  27. Some of these updates, especially the improvements to machines and processing, will involve a complete rework of the game’s resource systems, costs and rewards.
  28. That will probably be the perfect time to start a new game and see how the overall experience changes with all these new additions.
  29. So there is only one thing left for me to ask. Apart from everything mentioned above, what else would you like to see added to Farlands? We are keeping an eye on your feedback everywhere.
  30. Thank you so much for all your support. We hope you enjoy everything we want to keep adding to the game, and seeing how Farlands evolves with every new change and addition.
  31. Thank you!
