    35.
    36.       The galaxy lies broken in the aftermath of the Cataclysm that ended
    37.       the last great war. Civilizations have collapsed. Hyperspace travel
    38.       is dangerous. Planets were shattered by doomsday weapons and remain
    39.       devastated by engineered plagues. The Hive emerges from the remains
    40.       of  the Shaktur  Axis and  consumes all  in its  path.  Across  the
    41.       stars, scattered survivors cling to life  aboard  hidden  stations,
    42.       outlaw fleets, and wandering  ships. In  this dark  age,  the  best
    43.       chance for survival and power belongs not to  planetary  empires  ù
    44.       but to the Pirates. Distant Worlds 2: Shadows Rising is  the second
    45.       major  feature  expansion  for  Distant  Worlds   2,  fundamentally
    46.       expanding gameplay with entirely new ways to experience the galaxy.
    47.       Command a fully space-based Pirate Faction or try to succeed with a
    48.       single  ship  as  a Lone  Pirate. Successful  pirates  may  achieve
    49.       Legendary status or even found a new Pirate Empire that  will  span
    50.       the stars.
