    15. unsuccessful playwright, is forced, in      
    16. order to support himself, to take a          
    17. position as tutor in the household of Herr  
    18. Quandt. His first attempt to force himself  
    19. upon women comes when he becomes            
    20. interested in a young actress, Maria        
    21. Brandt, daughter of Colonel Brandt at        
    22. whose home he is lodging. He is driven      
    23. from the house by Colonel Brandt. That      
    24. night, acting as an usher for a meeting of  
    25. the new German Socialist Party, Goebbels    
    26. hears Hitler speak, and becomes an ardent    
    27. follower. He is made propaganda head,        
    28. becomes known as the "Scoundrel of          
    29. Berlin", and his machinations strike        
    30. terror into the hearts of innocent girls.    
    31. Maria Brandt, who is working as a bit        
    32. player in a theatre in Hannover, again      
    33. meets Goebbels. Through his efforts,        
    34. although unknown to her, Maria is made an    
    35. overnight star. He then procures a          
    36. contract for her at the famous UFA studios  
    37. of Berlin. Maria, who has become            
    38. interested in a young doctor, Hans          
    39. Traeger, shuns Goebbels' attentions.
